五代十国时期南闽政权铸造。公元943年,王审知第三子王延政杀兄自立,称帝于建州,改国号为殷,建元天德,共历2年,铸造有"天德通宝"和"天德重宝"背"殷"钱。根据文献记载,"天德通宝"有铜铁两种,但铜钱仅见数枚,铁钱有折拾型大钱留世。"天德重宝"背"殷"钱也分铜铁两种,其中铜钱有大样和小样之分,面文也有隶书和楷书的区别,有"宝"字"足"部作隶笔,钱币界成为隶宝天德,依据旧谱讲解尚有折拾型【天德重宝背殷】大铜钱传世,极其罕见,惜拓图已残缺。中国古钱"五十名珍"之一。

    当时王延政为了自己能当上帝王,亲手将自己的兄长杀害,并且自己在建州登基,把当时的年号改为了殷,每一位帝王在上位之后,都会发行属于自己的新钱币,王延政也没有例外,下令铸造了天德重宝。而且天德重宝发行了很多个不同的版本,其中材质分为铜制和铁制打造,并且铜质的天德重宝还有着大样和小样两种不同的类型之分。这枚钱币在设计时外形延续了以往的外圆内方的形状,正面印有天德重宝四个字样,字体却有隶书和楷书两种,全部采用上下左右的读取方式。
