早在1957年5月，中国地质博物馆胡承志从云南到贵州，在我市顶效镇绿荫村发现该古生物化石，后经中国科学院古脊椎动物与古人类研究所所长杨钟健教授研究，命名为“贵州龙科贵州龙属胡氏贵州龙”。

As early as May 1957, Hu Chengzhi from Yunnan to Guizhou, China Geological Museum, discovered the fossil in Luyin Village, Dingxiao Town of our city, and later passed through the Chinese Family.Professor Yang Zhongjian, Director of Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of Guizhou University, named it "Guizhou Dragon of Guizhou Longke belongs to Hu's Guizhou Dragon".

我们乍一看"贵州龙"的名字，你肯定会不假思索地说它是恐龙。实际上，贵州龙并不是恐龙，和恐龙最多能攀得上是"远亲"。在中生代距离现在大约从2.3亿年到6500万年的那段时间，地球上最繁盛的生物就是爬行动物，但爬行动物的类型却是多种多样的，有形形色色的恐龙，也有在海洋里生活的水生爬行动物像"贵州龙"，就连天上也有像翼龙一样的会飞翔的爬行动物，其中"贵州龙"是一种带有"龙"字而不是"恐龙"的爬行动物。
