画作主题是农历三月初三，恰逢西王母寿辰，天宫设蟠桃会，各路神仙前往瑶台祝寿赴宴。画家通过描绘空中、海上、陆地三路神仙赴宴时的情景，表现了王母盛筵的巨大场面。
