“军政府造四川铜币”是辛亥革命时期的产物。1911年12月发生“成都兵变”，以尹昌衡、罗纶为正副都督的四川军政府取代了成立仅12天的大汉四川军政府。新的四川军政府成立之初即面临着需用日繁、度支日绌的财政困窘局面。军政府迅速接管了四川成都造币厂，决定铸造“四川铜币”以应急。民国元年（1912年）4月，四川成都造币厂奉四川军政府之命，开模铸造“军政府造四川铜币”（也称“汉”字铜元）据有关资料，四川军政府铜币，因其铸主众多，铸期较短，再加铸造期间换模修版等原故，现存于世者版别极其繁杂，不下百种之巨。钱币正面图案中央是一个很大的篆书“汉”字，代表了新政府“大汉”的意思。与孙像开国纪念币和袁像银元比起来，军政府造四川铜币流通范围较窄，发行量与存世量自然无法与前二者相比。由于这个原因，接触川洋的人比较少，研究者更少。但这并不表示川洋的研究价值和市场价值不高，向来经济规律和收藏首要以“物以稀为贵”定律为标准。作为特殊历史时期、地方政权的特殊货币，是历史的产物，具有不可替代的文物价值，是历史的见证，好比过去农民政权发行的货币。
