1973 年,民国三年铸造的袁世凯银币有很多不同的版本,在正面的图案是基本相同的, 但是在背面的图案和一些细节方面还是有所不同的。袁大头银币上有暗记有多种设置形式, 按其形态不同可分为英文字母暗记、图形暗记、点珠暗记、内齿暗记和弯芒暗记等。不少袁大头银币上均同时采用上述几种暗记形式。民国三年一九一四年。北洋军阀政府正式铸造袁世凯头像银币。民国三年的“袁大头”中,袁世凯“试铸币”尤为珍贵,包括天津造币厂试铸的意大利制版人的英文签字版,以及袁世凯的左侧面像后颈部位的签字版。由于试铸币未曾正式流通使用,所以存世极少。
