此枚玉斧宽4厘米、高7.5厘米、重93.4克

这是一件新石器时代晚期的玉斧，形体厚重，像一颗葵花籽，而且很完整。它一端磨出很薄的刃，比较锋利，另一端比较粗糙，其中一面有两条凹槽，显然是装木柄来使用的。侧面有切痕，那个时代是没有金属工具的，那么人们制作玉器，就是用水和沙子、骨、牙、角、蚌这样的东西，不断地磨制出来的。这件玉斧，距今大概有四、五千年了，它比其他古代艺术品的年代，都要久远得多，它从玉料上讲，它是青绿色，和辽宁老玉很接近，这种玉料曾经比较广泛地使用在红山文化玉器和山东龙山文化玉器中。
