公元1911年11月27日，以一场铁路纷争为开端，四川这个大清帝国人口最多的省份，终于宣布独立，建立大汉四川军政府。尹昌衡出任军政部长，被推为都督后，立即着手组织军政府，由周骏任军政部长，其他各部门首脑由革命党人与立宪派分子分任之。新的四川军政府成立之初即面临着需用日繁、度支日绌的财政困窘局面。军政府迅速接管了四川成都造币厂，决定铸造“四川铜币”以应急。民国元年（1912年）4月，四川成都造币厂奉四川军政府之命，开模铸造“军政府造四川铜币”（也称“汉”字铜元）。
文中此枚就是精美的“军政府造四川铜币”，正面中央珠圈内镌“四川铜币”四个字，四个字中间镌一朵精美的芙蓉花，象征蓉城成都。珠圈外上端镌“军政府造”四个字，下端镌币值“当制钱一百文”，左右两侧各镌一个四瓣花星，银币背面中央圆圈内镌一个篆文“汉”字，代表了新政府“大汉”的意思，具有反清意义。有横向底纹装饰，旁围十八个小圆圈组成的圆圈，内镌纵向饰纹，象征着当年响应辛亥革命的十八个省。一百文是当时铸造最少也是最珍惜的。“军政府造四川铜币”发行量较大，流通时间较长，现今存世量亦较多。其各种面值中除五文、十文者外，其余三种面额版式繁多，一百文发行量极少，向来经济规律和收藏首要以“物以稀为贵”定律为标准，就此证明此钱币有极高的收藏价值。此铜币磨损痕迹自然，包浆老旧，铸造精美，工艺精湛，雕工极好，岁月的痕迹更为其增添了几分沉静和古朴的质感。质地浑厚有实感，收藏价值附带着特殊的历史意义。
