1895年，英国政府利用印度的孟买、加尔各答的造币厂铸造了新的贸易银元，即“站洋”，它是当时英国政府为适应对华贸易和在香港市场流通而设计发行的。该币发行后最初流通于我国的广东、广西两省，1900年以后开始在北方使用，特别在北京，天津地区更为盛行，并逐步占领了我国自南到北的大部分地区，套取了大量的白银。

In 1895, the British government used the mints in Mumbai and Calcutta, India, to forge a new trade silver dollar, i.e. "Zhanyang", which was designed and issued by the British government to adapt to trade with China and circulation in the Hong Kong market at that time. 其四为骑字版，用改刻模具年号的办法利用已经使用过的模具，比如1911年再铸币时，就将1900年的模具的年号处最后一个“0”字填充补平另刻“1”字，形成了1911年的站洋模具，不过这种填充料往往经过千百万次的使用后容易出现松动或者脱落，于是再铸币时便会在最后一个“1”字边缘隐约出现原来“0”字的痕迹，就成为骑字版。
