经国务院批准，中国人民银行于1962年4月20日开始发行第三套人民币。
 

这套人民币票面设计图案比较集中地反映了当时我国国民经济以农业为基础、以工业为主导、农轻重并举的方针；继承和发扬了第二套人民币的技术传统、风格，制版过程中精雕细刻，机器与传统的手工雕刻相结合，使图案、花纹线条精细；油墨配色合理，色彩新颖、明快；1元、5元券采用定向、不定向五星水印纸，10元券采用天安门图景固定水印纸，增强了人民币的反假反伪能力。

这套人民币是我国自行设计，使用我国自己研制的印钞专用设备印制，体现了当时我国的科技水平和国情，是我国印制工业进入独立自主、自力更生新时期的重要标志。
 

第三套人民币已于2000年7月1日停止流通，为收藏之珍品。

With the approval of the State Council, the People's Bank of China began issuing a third set of RMB on April 20, 1962.

 

This set of RMB ticket design patterns reflects the policy of China's national economy based on agriculture, industry-led, and agriculture.
