方琮,字黄山,山水宗黄公望,曾蒙御题。浙江人。善山水,从学于张宗苍,深得其传,供奉内庭。方琮是清朝乾隆时期的宫廷画家,生卒年不详,其姓名见于画史记载,如胡敬《国朝院画录》卷下云“方琮,字黄山,张宗苍弟子,工山水。《石渠》著录四十有八。”佚名的《读画辑略》云“方琮,字友璜,号石颠,浙江人。善山水,从学于张宗苍,笔致能相似,身得其传,供奉内廷。”据历史记载,方琮于乾隆十六年随其师张宗苍(1751)进入内府,直到乾隆四十三年(1778)仍在宫庭任职,在宫庭作画有三十年之久,是任职较长的宫庭画家之一。张宗苍深受皇帝的欣赏,而弟子方琮受业于其门下,在绘画上得其真传,也同样受到了乾隆皇帝的喜爱。乾隆皇帝多次在方琮作品上题诗,如题方琮《仿王蒙松路仙岩图》诗云:“昔实得门自文贵,今虚授业者宗苍,讵惟溪壑肖曲折,端在精神合混茫。”《题方琮山水诗》云:“画家笔法学宗苍,气韵居然合渺茫;小幅山川称游目,竟教难辨孰王羊。”可见方琮学张宗苍已达于乱真之境。清朝官方修著的《石渠宝笈·续编》及《石渠宝笈·三编》中共收录了方琮作品四十八幅之多,由此也可见方琮在乾隆朝后期也是一位颇有影响的宫廷画家。其作品以摹古为多,尝仿王希孟《千里江山图》、黄公望《富春山居图》、倪瓒《松林亭子图》等。

According to historical records, Fang Cong entered the inner court with his teacher Zhang Zongcang (1751) in the 16th year of Qianlong, and remained in the palace until the forty-third year of Qianlong (1778). He painted in the palace for thirty years and was one of the longest-serving Palace painters. Zhang Zongcang was deeply appreciated by the emperor, and disciple Fang Cong was also loved by the emperor Qianlong, who was well educated under his door and had a true biography of his paintings. Emperor Qianlong often inscribed poems on Fang Cong's works, such as Fang Cong's Imitation of Wang Meng Song's Road Xianyan Tu: "In the past, the door was privileged, but now the virtual professor Zong Cang, Nei Wei Xixiao twists and turns, the end of the spiritual confusion." "Tiefang Guan Landscape Poetry" cloud: "Painter's brushwork Zongcang, the charm is incredibly vague; small mountains and rivers called sightseeing, unexpectedly difficult to distinguish between the king and the sheep." It can be seen that Fang Guanxue Zhang Zongcang has reached the realm of chaos and truth. In the official works of the Qing Dynasty, the sequel of Shiqu Baoding and the third edition of Shiqu Baoding, 48 works of Fang Cong were collected. It can be seen that Fang Cong was also an influential palace painter in the late Qianlong Dynasty. His works mostly imitate the ancients, such as Wang Ximeng's Thousand Li River Mountain Map, Huang Gongwang's Fuchun Mountain Residence Map and Ni Zan's Songlin Pavilion Map.

方琮《山水人物画》本朝轴,绢本,设色,纵31.7cm,横35.7cm。

此幅作品,如山如阜,如冈如陵,如川之方至,以莫不增……如月之恒,如日之升,如南山之寿,不骞不崩,如松柏之茂,无不尔或承”的诗意所绘。图绘高山流水、翠柏苍松、屋内主人与朋友谈茶对弈的情景。小桥上骑驴的耕者带着牧童惟妙惟肖,好一副山水田园诗画。作者以山冈、松树、牧童、耕者、友人,高山流水等被赋予吉祥之意的景物为主人营造了一个可居可游的人间仙境。构图取景深远,画风归属清初“四王”中王原祁所引领的“娄东派”一路。山石树木以干笔枯墨或汁绿色皴擦渲染,墨与色交织,表现出深远的意境和深厚的气韵。此画为乾隆皇帝所赏识,爱不释手。
