光绪八年（1882年），吉林向朝廷奏称""吉林省制钱缺乏，市面益显萧条，再三商量，只有依照制钱式样，铸造银钱，解决现钱的短缺""。奏准后于光绪十年（1884年）即令吉林机器局铸造了厂平壹两、厂平七钱、厂平半两、厂平三钱、厂平一钱5种面值的银圆。这是我国用机器自行设计制作的最早的一批银圆，开创了我国机制银圆的先河，在中国货币制造史上占有十分重要的地位。光绪二十四年（1898年），吉林机器局更名为吉林银元局，并开铸无纪年光绪元宝。此枚银币正面中央珠圈内镌汉文“光绪元宝”四个字，四字中央镌太极图。珠圈外上端镌“吉林省造”四个汉字，下端镌币值“库平一两”四个字，“辛丑”两个字分镌左右两侧。银币背面中央镌蟠龙图，此枚银币包浆入骨，品相极佳，具有重要的收藏价值。
