在1899年，清政府想收回北洋造币厂的铸币权，后经荣禄等大臣保奏，方使北洋铸币厂保留了下来。几经周折，北洋铸币厂所铸造的光绪元宝为数不多，流通于世的相对其他元宝的数量也较少，随着时光的流逝，北洋造的光绪元宝也大量的遗失。仅存于世的寥寥无几，众所周知，古玩文物以稀为贵。该元宝保存完好，质地清晰，是难得一见的光绪元宝中的珍品。
近日有幸征得光绪元宝云南省造库平三钱六分一枚，直径约为3.3厘米。钱币正面珠圈内为“光绪元宝”四字，四字中间铸有满文，上缘铸制造局“云南省造”四字，下环币值“库平三钱六分”，左右各伴一圆点星。藏品的品相精美，其审美个性独持，钱币正面鲜然可见满汉文化的交融，而钱背却清晰标明了西方文化的介入。其包浆入骨，熟旧天然，深打字口明白，流转痕迹显着，边齿过关，龙鳞清晰，具有极高的出资价值和保藏价值。它有着前史熏陶，是价值很高的革新文物，具有深远的前史留念含义；同时仍是考古和研讨我国前史文化可贵的什物。
云南省造库平三钱六分光绪元宝因铸行量少，完好存世的更是珍稀，对古泉爱好者来说可谓是无价之宝。
