天禄者，也曰貔貅，独角为天禄，双角为貔貅。天禄又称“天鹿”，也称“挑拨”、“符拨”，是古代传说中的瑞兽，而且与“天命”和“禄位”有关。“天禄”既是貔貅。相传“貔貅”是一种凶猛的瑞兽，而这种猛兽分为雌性和雄性，雄性为“貔”，雌性为“貅”。但是现在流传下来的都没有雌雄了。古代时这种瑞兽是分一角和两角的，一角的称为“天禄”，两角的称为“辟邪”。后来到了唐宋后，渐渐地也没分一角或两角，并且多以一角造型为主。中国南方人喜欢把这种瑞兽称为“貔貅”，北方人则称其为“辟邪”。至于天禄，则较小有人用以称这种瑞兽，还有人将它称为“怪兽”或者“四不像”
