在中国佛教供奉的诸多菩萨中，观音菩萨是佛教四大菩萨之一，是大慈大悲的化身，她是梵文阿缚卢枳低湿伐逻的意译，是遇到苦难“即时观其音声，皆得解脱”的意思。她本身早已成佛，只是为了安乐成熟众生，倒驾慈航，随缘应世，以三十二应身随处救度受苦众生，所求皆应。他具备十四种布施众生无所畏惧的无边神力，四种不可思议无作无为的胜妙德用，具足一切无碍神通，广修种种善巧方便，历来在中国民间广受礼敬供养，曾有“户户弥陀佛，家家观世音”盛象。

观世音菩萨代表慈悲，代表乐于助人，见到众生有苦难，立刻就伸出援手，所以我们称赞观世音菩萨是“千手千眼”。千手千眼是比喻，并不是真的有一千只手、一千只眼，这是赞叹精明能干之人是“双手万能”。所谓是眼到、手到，只要他看到了，帮助的手立刻就到达。佛教认为在观音菩萨纪念日举行念佛、诵经、持咒、放生等活动犹为殊胜，具大功德。

Guan Shiyin Bodhisattva stands for compassion and is willing to help others. When we see the suffering of all beings, we immediately reach out to help them. Therefore, we praise Guan Shiyin Bodhisattva as "a thousand hands and a thousand eyes". Thousands of hands and thousands of eyes are metaphors. They do not really have one thousand hands and one thousand eyes. They praise the wise and capable people as "all-powerful hands". The so-called eye-to-hand, as long as he sees, the helping hand will arrive immediately. Buddhism believes that the activities of chanting Buddha, chanting sutras, holding mantras and releasing life on the anniversary of Guanyin Bodhisattva are still exceptional and have great merits.
