四川铜币军政府是由四川铜元钱币演变过来的，最早铜元清光绪二十八年(1902)，川督岑春煊始议铸造铜元。光绪二十九年(1903)六月，建立四川铜元局铸造军政府铜元。正面上书“军政府造”中心“四川铜币”内牡丹花饰，底书“当制钱五十文”背面书纪念年份“中华民国元年”，外边十八空心圈代表十八独立省份。

  该币正面中央珠圈内有“四川铜币”四字，上下左右分列，其中心饰有芙蓉花纹。珠圈上缘书“军政府造”四字，下缘为“当制钱五十文”字样，标明币值，左饰以花星纹饰。铜币背面中央大圆圈内为一篆书“汉”字，“汉”字底有数十条横直纹，因而钱币收藏者也称之为“汉”字铜元。“汉”字圆圈外还环绕有18个小圆圈，代表当时的十八个省。把18个小圆圈围绕着“汉”字联成一体，寓意十八省人民团结起来共同为“驱逐鞑虏，恢复中华”而战斗。它带有辛亥革命那一时期鲜明的时代印记，见证了那一段波澜壮阔的革命历史，同时此枚四川铜币为罕见的鎏金，错版（花星纹饰，正反面各少一个）这枚集错版鎏金四川铜币非常罕见，极具收藏价值。
