大清御赐金牌

在清朝的咸丰时期，任闽江总督的左宗棠，上奏朝廷，提出要抵御外来侵略，必须建立一支新式的海军，要建立海军就得自己造船，培养自己的造船和海军人才。在左宗棠、沈葆桢等一批官员主持下，清政府开始在具有独特地理优势的福州马尾设厂造船，兴办船政学堂，使之成为中国近代海军的发祥地。作为洋务运动的实务之一，福州船政的马尾船厂是当时中国唯一的海军船厂，也是当时远东地区最大的造船厂。
