此组藏品为“京局造光绪元宝（庚子年）”，清代光绪二十六年岁次庚子（1900年）清政府北京银圆局成立开始铸造银币，当时委由英国皇家铸币厂雕制铸币钢模，币面图样正中光绪元宝满、汉文四字，左右年份“庚子”上端为铸造机关“京局制造”四字，下端计重“库平七钱二分”，背面图样中为一大清龙图，上、下端分别为英文“PEKING”和重量。整体结构端庄精美，铸造工艺精湛，字迹清晰，犹如刀切斧削，非常精练。真的庚子京局制造光绪元宝钱文线条间透露一种刚毅之劲，神韵非常，让人叹为观止。不仅艺术价值高，历史研究价值也很高，因而十分珍贵。

京局庚子系列银元在中国近代机制币收藏界中声名显赫，区别于其他中央发行或地方省造龙洋的龙图较为明显的国外风格，庚子京局龙洋更似明清皇帝朝服上张牙舞爪的龙图，别有一番韵味。而因其铸造的命运多桀，更使得庚子京局系列银币存世无多，从而更受各类钱币收藏家的追捧。

然而当钢模送抵北京银圆局不久，适遭逢拳匪之变，又被八国联军劫掠，铸币厂房被毁，北京银圆局仍胎死腹中，仅留存少量银币存世。共分五种面值，分别为七钱二分、三钱六分、一钱四分四厘、七分二厘和三分六厘。过数年，清政府才改立造币总厂于天津。京局制造的银币背面龙图为一张牙舞爪的正式大清龙图，和我国其他各省的龙图银圆大相径庭，其云龙图样常见于清正式龙袍，锦缎文书，陶瓷器，形象威武，有大国风范，历来为钱币收藏界所珍视、喜爱，加上只试铸数枚，又遭匪乱，传世甚少，为我国银币爱好者珍若供璧、名贵非凡。 庚子京局制造光绪元宝是第一套清中央政府正式铸造的银币，意义不凡，每种面值传世仅数枚，尤以壹圆银币最为少见，也最珍罕，国内只上海博物馆藏有一套。
