清代机制铜圆的铸造始于1900年（清朝光绪二十六年），止于1911年（宣统三年）。铸造流通时间尽管只有十余年，但其鼎盛时期全国共有十九省二十局开机铸造铜圆。十九省二十局先后铸造的当十铜圆，各不相同，版式繁多。仅以明显区别划分，其版式就有数百种之多。大清铜币”铜圆共有十九个省局铸造。除中央户部铸造者外，地方各省所铸铜圆，皆在其正面中央镌刻阴文或阳文省名简称。
