五铢钱是中国古铜币名。钱上有“五铢”二篆字，故名，东汉王朝刚刚建立，经济基础薄弱，社会动荡。半两钱、西汉五铢钱、王莽的货泉和大泉五十等，杂混在民间流通。直到建武十六年（公元40年）才重铸五铢钱。自此以后，东汉各帝均铸五铢钱，古钱学家将东汉前期铸行的五铢钱称为“延帝五铢”。在灵帝中平三年（公元186年）改铸“四出文”五铢钱。建武以后各朝五铢钱比西汉各朝五铢钱轻薄，钱径多在2.5厘米，重3.4-3.4克，厚约0.1厘米，一般为3克，外郭较窄。“五铢”二字宽肥圆柔，笔划较粗且浅，面文“五”字中间交笔弯曲，上下两横不出来，“铢”字“金”字头呈三角形，比西汉五铢金字旁大，“金”字四点较长；“朱”字头圆折，中间直笔，两端较细；制作精致，文字书体规范。中国铜元见证了中国从封建社会演化为半封建半殖民地社会的历史过程，是我国近代货币史和钱币学的重要组成部分，独具历史意义。此枚藏品设计精美，做工精细，布局合理，层次鲜明，工艺纯熟精湛，钱币虽小，却也能反应当时社会文化的特征具有很大的市场价值和经济价值。
