江南省造光绪元宝

Jiaoguangxu Yuanbao in Jiangnan Province

江南省造光绪元宝是清代光绪二十三年到三十一年铸造的机制系列银币，属于清代正式铸行的法定流通银币。其实铸造江南省造银币的清末，已无江南省建制，此币是由南京造币厂铸造的。南京造币厂将其铸造的银币标明“江南省造”，是因为当时苏州已经有一个专铸机制铜元的造币厂，并且其铸造的铜元均标明“江苏省造”。为避免混淆，南京造币厂将其铸造的银币标明为“江南省造”。所以江南省造银币系我国货币史上唯一有名无实的省份银币。

Making Guangxu Yuanbao in Jiangnan Province is a series of mechanism silver coins minted from 23 to 31 years of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty. It belongs to the legal circulating silver coins formally minted in Qing Dynasty. In fact, at the end of the Qing Dynasty, there was no Jiangnan silver coin, which was minted by Nanjing Mint. Nanjing Mint marked its silver coins "Made in Jiangnan Province" because at that time there was already a copper coin factory in Suzhou with a special casting machine, and all the copper coins it minted were marked "Made in Jiangsu Province". To avoid confusion, the Nanjing Mint labeled its silver coins "Made in Jiangnan Province". Therefore, the Jiangnan silver coin is the only province in the history of Chinese currency with no real name.

银币正面有珠圈，正中央内镌满汉文“光绪元宝”四字，圈外上端镌“江南省造”，下端镌币值“库平七钱二分”，左右两侧分镌干支纪年“辛丑”二字。背面是蟠龙图，龙鳞龙爪层次分明，立体感极强，鳞片之间无虚无粘，铸造技术成熟精良。

The silver coin has a bead circle on the front. The four characters of "Guangxu Yuanbao" are inscribed in the central part of the coin. The upper part of the coin is inscribed "Made in Jiangnan Province", and the lower part is inscribed with the value of "Kuping seven cents two cents". The left and right sides of the coin are inscribed with the words "Xin-ugly". On the back is the Panlong Dragon Map. The dragon scales and claws have distinct layers, strong three-dimensional sense, and no viscous between scales. The casting technology is mature and sophisticated.

In this paper, we show the Guangxu Yuan Bao of Jiangnan Province, which has a deep stroke decoration, standard edge teeth, protruding ring teeth, clear grains, flat ground chapters, and ripe pulp. It has a distinct style of court coins of the Qing Dynasty. It is well preserved, of excellent quality and of high collection value.
